Adoption Triad
of the Ozarks

Adoption Triad of the Ozarks History

In the spring of 2003, Sharon Fieker and Judy Mills brought Adoption Triad of the Ozarks into reality after meeting for breakfast. Sharon had earlier attended the Adoption Triad Support Network KC meetings in Liberty and met its founder Carolyn Pooler. Through e-mail contact with Carolyn, Judy was given Sharon's name and contact information.

Sharon had experience with starting an adoption support group in Springfield. Sharon, a Birth Mom, placed her daughter for adoption at birth in 1969. Her daughter searched for and found Sharon in 1995, and they were reunited. Sharon started a support group for Birth Moms after that reunion. "After my reunion with my daughter, we (the Birthmoms in the group) benefitted from one perspective of the triad."

"After Judy Mills experienced a successful reunion with her birth siblings, she and I discussed starting a group for all members of the Triad. It's been more beneficial for us Birth Parents to participate in discussions with adoptees instead of just our own."

Since starting "Adoption Triad of the Ozarks," the group invited special guests, as well as all members of the Adoption Triad and their support groups to join.

In addition to offering support to members of the Adoption Triad in the Ozarks community, Sharon and Janis Simkins, another birth mom from the group conducted a workshop in Kansas City at the 26th annual conference of the American Adoption Congress in 2004.
